- Commodity name: Homogenized mullite
Natural sintered mullite is produced from high‑quality natural bauxite, which undergoes manual sorting and is then sintered at temperatures exceeding 1,750°C. Mullite exhibits excellent thermal shock resistance, low high‑temperature creep, and superior chemical corrosion resistance, ensuring consistent quality. It is an ideal raw material for manufacturing a wide range of shaped and unshaped refractory products, high‑grade sanitary ware bodies, precision castings, and other applications.
Refractory Raw Materials · Technical ManualHomogenization Mullite
Mullite homogenized material — a bauxite-based mullite clinker produced through multi‑stage, full‑process homogenization blending followed by high‑temperature, thorough mullitization sintering. It exhibits zero variation in composition, crystalline phase, and density, making it a high‑end, stable sintered mullite.

Common natural sintered mulliteThe raw material mix is only rudimentary, resulting in significant compositional fluctuations, a low mullite conversion rate, localized impurity accumulation, and an elevated glassy phase content.Mullite homogenate (mullite homogeneous material)On the basis of ordinary sintered mullite, an additional… is added. Wet ultrafine co-grinding, multi-stage silo homogenization, and precise batching to control the aluminum-to-silicon ratio. The raw materials consist of a precise blend of high-alumina bauxite and kaolin/cordierite, with the Al₂O₃/SiO₂ ratio tightly controlled to closely match the theoretical 3:2 ratio. 1730~1780°C solid-phase sintering , with a higher mullite conversion rate, uniform impurity distribution, and zero compositional variation across the entire batch.02Production Process Flow

04Core Advantages (Compared with Conventional Sintered Mullite)
01Extremely stable formulationThe deviation of each batch and each bag is extremely small, eliminating the need for frequent adjustments to downstream formulations. The dimensional consistency and high‑temperature performance of refractory products are significantly improved, while the scrap rate is reduced. By contrast, ordinary sintered mullite from the same batch can exhibit an aluminum content variation of 2–3%.
02More complete mullitization and lower creep. After homogenization and thorough mixing, the aluminosilicate reaction is complete, resulting in a mullite phase content that is 10%–20% higher. At 1600°C, it exhibits extremely low long-term creep under load, with a load‑bearing softening point of ≥1650°C, making it well suited for prolonged high‑temperature kiln service.
03Comprehensive upgrade in thermal shock resistanceIt exhibits a uniform and stable coefficient of thermal expansion (5.0–5.4 × 10⁻⁶/°C), with no microcracks caused by compositional segregation; consequently, the risk of spalling or cracking under rapid cooling and heating is significantly lower than that of conventional sintered mullite.
04Acid- and alkali-resistant slag balanceIt contains no localized high-titanium, low-melting zones; it is resistant to acidic glass and ceramic melts, and, with a small amount of corundum, exhibits superior resistance to erosion by mildly alkaline steel slag compared with conventional sintered mullite.
05Higher density and lower water absorptionWet‑process homogenization combined with high‑pressure forming results in a greater density of closed pores, enhanced aggregate strength and wear resistance, and reduces the tendency for moisture absorption and delamination in castables.
05Shortboard Tip
Note 01Relatively high costThe manufacturing process is complex, the sintering temperature is high, and the price is higher than that of ordinary naturally sintered mullite.
Note 02Alkaline slag conditions are limited. The Al₂O₃ content is capped at around 73%, and the pure corundum content is significantly lower than that of the homogenized bauxite GL-85/88. Consequently, its performance under highly alkaline molten steel and iron‑tapping conditions is inferior to that of high‑alumina homogenized refractories.
